/amend-decoder
Decode the amend window.
Enter your install or purchase details below. The decoder applies the controlling primary-source tests — binding-contract acquisition (§30D / §25E), installation-completion (§25D(e)(8)(A)), placed-in-service (§25C(i)), and statute-of-limitations (§6511(a)) — and returns:
- · An eligibility verdict (amend-yes / amend-no / edge-case / statute-expired) with the controlling statute pin
- · The exact IRS form line to file or amend (Form 5695 / Form 8936)
- · The statute-of-limitations amend-by date with
.icscalendar export - · State-conformity layer for your state of residence
Decoder runs entirely in your browser. Install dates, contract dates, dollar amounts, and state are never posted to our servers. We don't currently count anything — no analytics beacon is wired. When we add aggregate analytics post-AdSense soak, only the verdict kind (e.g. amend-yes) will be counted — never the dates or amounts you entered.
FormFinder
Find the exact line to write on.
Given the credit type, tax year, filing status, and whether you're claiming originally or amending, the FormFinder outputs the primary form (Form 5695 or Form 8936), the specific line, the supporting schedule, and the documentation to retain.
Decoder logic is sourced from primary text.
Every verdict pins back to the IRS publication, USC subsection, and §6511 statute-of-limits rule that controls the user's specific case. Hover or focus any footnote chip below to see the primary URL and last-verified date.
